This course examines the major historical and cultural developments of American literature. It is organized around the main purpose which is to explore the major literary traditions in American history through reading, analyzing, and situating a variety of literary texts. The course mainly considers and questions the different notions of national and individual identity as they evolved and changed over time in works of literature.
